Stopping chemotherapy

Hello

I have been diagnosed with stage 3 RCC kidney cancer last September. There was metastasis to the brain and lung. I have had some surgery since then and started chemotherapy. But it was not efficient even with changes from sutent to pazopanib and 10 sessions of radiation treatment.
Now, the MDT has decided to stop the chemotherapy and concentrate on making me calm. They didn't give me a survival time. I am wondering if I can choose to continue with my therapy? They have decided to stop medicine without my consent. I am not sure where I am currently living??!!

  • Hello Saeid,

A very warm welcome to our forum, although I'm sorry to hear why you've joined us. You might find it helpful to write down a list of questions for your care team and to ask for an appointment to discuss your concerns. It is often worth involving a loved one or close friend in drawing up this list, as they will often come up with questions that you may not have thought about.

Under the circumstances, I feel sure that you could bring a loved one with you for support, despite the current restrictions due to the current pandemic. I suspect that they may not give you a prognosis, unless you want it and actually ask for a survival time. Even then, this is at best a 'guesstimate', as even consultants are often way off with their predictions in this respect. There are a number of people on this site who have outlived these predictions, by quite some time.

I sincerely hope that you manage to get answers to these questions. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
