Fibroadenoma surgery

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this but would like some advice. I had an ultra sound a year ago which found a 2.1cm fibroadenoma. I was told to keep an eye on it and had no biopsy as I was only 17. The lump got bigger and I went back recently (I'm 18 now) and they told me that it had grown to 4.5cm but they still think it's a fibroadenoma. I'm going back in a few weeks to discuss options and it sounds like they'll be giving me the option of surgery. I'm feeling very conflicted as I have heard lots of pros and cons. Has anyone had any relevant experiences that they would be okay with sharing? I think I'm mainly concerned about it growing larger and distorting my breast and then if I get it removed whether my breast will look different. I would love to hear anyone's experience of why they decided to/not to have surgery and whether they feel they made the right choice. Thanks :)

  • Hello Anonymous257372 and welcome to the forum.

I think there have been quite a few discussions about fibroadenomas within the community so hopefully some of our members will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but do feel free to join in on discussions you find about this when using the 'search forum' option in the purple bar above.

You're also welcome to talk things through with our nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m but in the meantime I hope this information I've found on Breast Cancer Now will help.

    Kind regards,
