Throat issues/lump in throat

Please help. I'm only 23 and never had any health problems before and all of a sudden 3 months ago I started feeling like a hair was stuck in my throat, this then changed to feeling like a lump in my throat with a tight neck and hard to swallow. And also feels worse after I've ate as it feels like it's sitting there and making the lump feel worse. I've been giving omeprazole (acid reflux tablets) as they said it could be that but I've been taking them for 2 months with no relief. Also said it could be anxiety which I do have and since I've had the it's been through the roof. Did anyone have this and it was anxiety ? Please help I'm going insane I can't eat or sleep and just want to stay in bed all day my family or no one understands what I'm going through and no one can help me

  • Hi I'm on these tablets to been on them a while now .

I have heartburn that's why I'm on them I also have a hytus hernia found through a laparoscopy.  I've had this done 4 times dont really like it to be honest .

Even I got phelan and it's hard to get up and can make me choke I keep mentioning it to my doctor all he says ring me back after a month and it's still there .

  • Hi Louise,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues that may be connected with anxiety. I see from your post that you have seen your doctor and cancer has not been mentioned. When you are anxious it can be tempting to look for answers on an online forum, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better.

Our community is run by Cancer Research UK for those affected by cancer to give and receive support to others in the same situation. We acknowledge that you are dealing with symptoms and have some anxiety issues which need addressing but Cancer Chat is not the right place for you to continue posting as it is only fuelling your fears.

Rather than continuing to post here, it would be best to look into seeking further help to deal with your anxiety. The NHS have some helpful information about health anxiety here

You might also find it helpful to contact the helpline provided by the charity No Panic or talk to others on a more appropriate forum such as Anxiety UK.

Anxiety is very difficult to live with but support is out there and I hope it won't be long before you're able to get the help you need to manage this.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
