Positive FIT test

Hi ,

I was sent for a pelvic CT scan and then referred to a bowel specialist who asked me to do a FIT test . I received a phone call 48 hours later to be told it was positive and I need an urgent colonoscopy,  I received a letter today to say I am on a two week pathway and will be seen ASAP.

I'm 55 and lost my dad last February to bowel cancer. Very scared I have it now.

  • Hi Julia

I understand how you feeling I had a positive test in January and was put on the 2-week pathway it was like being picked up in a tornado it all went so fast.do you have any symptoms? why did you have the ct? I had no symptoms and mine was a fit test that came in the post for older peeps. I can give you some help getting ready for the colonoscopy I found a much better way to do a bowel cleanse.keep strong xx

  • Hi

Thanks for the reply, I do have some symptoms such as diarrhoea and constipation.

I get stomach cramps after eating and I get some bloating.

The CT scan was on my pelvis as I feel like my bladder and bowel never feels fully empty.

I'm interested in preparing for my colonoscopy.

  • happy to help with bowel pre as I am sure it was made by Satun lol try and get the first appointment so you not starving, 7 days before colonoscopy I changed my food intake to soups jelly some bread just cut it way back, I only took half the bowel prep and insides were clear, I also used clean confidence go after the day before you can but from confident u has no nasty stuff in it.Good luck x

  • Hello,

Thanks for the food advice I will definitely be doing this,

Hope you don't mind me asking how have you got on since your colonoscopy.

  • Sadly they found an 8cm tumor I have decided not to have any treatment for it, I have found a great herbalist who going to support me. hopefully, yours is just a polyp or hemaeriods let me know how you get on pen x

  • So sorry to hear this, you seem to have a great attitude to your news, I'm trying to stay positive until I find out for sure what's going on.

Thank you for sharing this with me Pen and I will update you with my journey x

  • Hi

Sorry to read your post, I read it a couple of days ago to be honest and have been thinking of you ever since.

I've been through bowel cancer, the surgery and chemo and come out the other side.

It is so your decision and nothing to do with me but are you sure you're making the right decision to refuse treatment?

Whatever you decide I'm sure you have your reasons and wish you all the best xx

  • Hi Julia

Having been through bowel cancer I wish you all the best and hoping you get good results.

A couple of things I would like to say..... because of your family history they won't mess about in getting you seen quickly.

Another thing... I had a fit test a couple of weeks ago and was warned that these things are so good at tracing blood, that if you have a 'bleeding pile' at the time of the sample, this will come back as positive so not to automatically think it is bad news.

Colonoscopy will find anything that may be there and you should get your answers on the day.

I don't know if you have had one before but I have them yearly now and always go for the sedation AND gas & air!

Good luck hope all is well. x

  • Aww thanks, Ineedabreak glad your surgery went well and all ok now, I suffer from agoraphobia and panic attacks for the last 30 years, I don't even go to the dentist so having major op chemo and radiation with the side effects is a no, I have 2 fantastic daughters 3 wonderful grandchildren and 2 gorgeous great-grandchildren I have read and researched about cancer and it works for some but not others mine is 8cm 12 cm from the anal verge, how did you cope may I ask xxx

  • Thank you for your reply.

I was really scared but took one day at a time and I knew I was going to throw everything I could at it.

I've had it twice now. The second time was harder as I had chemo the second time.

Could they not put you on medication until after the treatment to calm you right down? I'm sorry I don't understand what it must be like to suffer from agoraphobia, I just have bad anxiety now fearing the cancer returning with every ache or pain.

I just think I want to be with my lovely family for many years to come so if there's a problem I just get on with letting the wonderful doctors try and sort it for me and take the rough days one day at a time until each day I get a little stronger.

    Lot's of love x
