Is there anyone else out there?

Hello, my sister Helen has an differential Pineal gland tumour.

she was operated on and some was removed however 2 days later she had emergency surgery to remove a blood clot. She didn't come round for several weeks and in this time also had her cebral fluid infection and resulted in having a shunt into her stomach.
after several weeks in ICU she had a traccy inserted and came of a ventilator.

after 3 months she had the traccy removed.

but Helen is not the same person she was. She is bed ridden as she seems to lose herself and goes into a state where she won't eat or drink or take medication, she pulled out her feed tube several times.

she is now in rehab in LNH London but is not responding to any physio treatment.

id hate for her to end up in long term nursing as she is only 50.

do you know anyone who has had the same experience?

the doctors are at a loss as to how to treat her.

thank you

  • Welcome to the Cancer Chat community Anne although I'm really sorry to read what's happened to Helen. I can't begin to imagine how tough this has been for you.

I've had a quick look through the forum and unfortunately there haven't been many discussions about this lately (the most recent one I could find was from two years ago) but you may be able to get more information, support and advice from The Brain Tumour Society and Brain Tumour Support. You may also want to have a look at the Pineal Gland Cysts & Tumors group on Facebook.

If you'd like to talk things through with our team of cancer nurses they are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040 and will do all they can to help.

    Best wishes to you both,
