Mouth cancer

Hi. I didn't know this forum existed until today.

I was first diagnosed with tongue cancer 9 years ago, had a flap and neck resection and radiotherapy. No chemo. My speech was affected but not too severely.  2 years ago a new cancer arose on the floor of my mouth. I had a repeat of the first operation but, of course, could not have repeat radiotherapy to the same area. Now, very few people understand me except, thank God,  my family and doctors, so I use a text to speech app on my phone and tablet (TTS). It can convert the text to speech but usually I just show the text to whomever I want to communicate with. This has pretty severely affected my life although, thank goodness, I have always enjoyed my own company and read voraciously.  I live in Ireland and am wondering if anyone else on this forum does. Also, is anyone else in a similar position and do they have tips on communicating.
