Fibroids and Urgent Referral - worried sick

Hello,

I went for an ultrasound earlier this week, I had contacted my GP due to trying for a baby and not conceiving. I had no symptoms as such apart from heavy ish periods. When I had the ultrasound the lady said I had some fibroids on my left ovary and on the right she said I had a large growth that she was unsure whether or not it was a large fibroid but she wasn't happy with it and referred me for a CT scan and requested CEA and CA125 bloods. I have had the results of the tests the CEA was normal and CA125 was 35 the receptionist said that was slightly high.

I have my appointment with the gynaecologist on Monday but I have been told it's just a consultation not a CT scan.

I'm worried it could be cancer I have a 4 year old daughter and worried sick.

anyone had any similar experience?

  • Hi Deb and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

Hopefully some of our members will get back to you soon but in the meantime, I just wanted to wish you all the best for tomorrow.

If your appointment isn't too early in the day you're welcome to talk things through with our team of nurses on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines will be open between 9a.m - 5p.m.

We'll have our fingers crossed the growth isn't anything sinister or cause for concern Deb.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi, just an update I had my appointment today and the consultant said if we was a betting man he would put a large amount of money on it being a fibroid and not cancer. He is referring me for a MRI scan but not on the urgent two week referral.

i am taking this as positive news as surely the consultant wouldn't give me a strong assurance if he suspected cancer.

He also said that they CA125 could be raised slightly due to me having the bloods done at the start of my period.

This forum has been really helpful

    thank you
