Needing a bit of company

Evening All,

After a long wait I finally have my scan tomorrow, I'm feeling a bit nervous. I have a family history of breast cancer and now I'm having signs and symptoms of Ovarian cancer. My CA125 levels are high, ongoing bowel and bladder issues, bloating and a lot of pressure in my chest.

im scared that they'll find something and what it will mean but I'm equally nervous that they won't find anything and I'll be stuck feeling this way with no explanation.

is it normal to feel like this? Any suggestions of coping strategies and questions to ask please?

tThankyou!

    Hi Protea,

I am glad to hear that your scan has come around at last. I just want to reassure you that it is perfectly normal to feel scared and to find your emotions all over the place at this stage. It is difficult to deal with so many unknowns and, believe it or not, you will feel better irrespective of the outcome, once you know more.

The best thing to do at the moment is to try and keep yourself busy to help the time to pass. You may find it difficult to concentrate on television - some people find it helpful to become ingrossed in a jigsaw or similar pastime. Also, steer clear of consulting 'Dr Google', as this will only scare you further for no useful purpose. Finally, remember that it's not cancer until you're old that it's cancer.

I hope that all goes well for you tomorrow. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thankyou Jolamine!

im back and nothing found on my ultrasound apart from a small polyp of not much concern. I'm relieved that there is not a tumour but frustrated to not have any explanation for my symptoms or path forward.

hopefully know more about what's next when the GP calls next week.

    Thankyou again

    Sara

    Hi Protea,

I am delighted to hear that it's not cancer, but hope that your GP can shed more light on what it actually is. When are you due to chat to your GP next week?

I shall be keeping my fingers crossed that it's something much more straightforward.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
