Guess I'm one of the lucky ones...

Hello, I posted a while ago and here's my update and a bit of background

Today I had to go to the Breast Screening Centre at the hospital after a referral from my GP.

Whilst showering about 8 weeks ago I noticed a lump in my left breast, thinking nothing of it I left it well alone.

About 4 weeks ago before then during my period my breast felt more swollen than usual and the lump I had felt seemed more prominent and my breast felt differently to a normal period more swollen than the other. I also had pain under my armpit on the same side. After feeling the lump and my period ending, swelling reduced but the lump was still there and my breast felt tender. Now I was getting worried.

I eventually plucked up the courage to go to my GP who examined me and just to be on the safe side referred me for an emergency appointment to get it investigated.

I waited a week for an appointment and on the 2nd week, today, I attended the hospital.

After being examined by a consultant, I nervously waited to be called in to the ultrasound room. After being scanned I was relieved to find out that although my lymph nodes are a bit swollen and the pain under my armpit just seems to be a bit of a strain in the muscle. There is no sign of anything suspicious.

I'll be 36 in July and lumps and bumps are common at this age as we go through hormonal changes in our bodies.

So please, anything you notice that doesn't feel like it should, however small go and get checked out, don't think you're being silly or paranoid because that's what doctors are there for to put your mind at ease and help in any way they can.

Check your breasts regularly so you know what feels OK and what doesn't....don't leave things to chance

Such a relief to say I'm OK after weeks of wondering, worrying and waiting. I've been very lucky and shouldn't have been so stubborn when I first found the lump.

    Hi Scouser,

Thank you so much for letting us know the outcome of your visit and for all of your good advice. I am delighted to hear that all turned out so well for you today.

So many people delay getting breast changes investigated for fear of wasting their GPs time, especially since the covid pandemic began. This is so silly, because the sooner any cancer is detected and treated the better the outcome tends to be.

I hope that you can totally relax tonight - maybe with the help of a nice glass of wine?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
