Multi focal Invasive Ductal Carcinoma

Hi everyone

I was dignised with multi focal ductal carcinoma OR+ HER2neg in March, reading some of the threads I'm so lucky that this was detected through routine screening. I'm currently grade 1 with two tumours 6mm and 5mm. My date for surgery is quickly approaching and I'm now becoming quite anxious. I seem to cope quite well with knowing it's the unknown that I struggle with, having to wait up to 10 days for lymph node and margin results will not be easy for me. I've carried on working but obviously once I've had the operation this will stop for a while.

    Hi Victoria,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear of your diagnosis, although glad to hear that you've caught it early. We are so lucky to have access to regular screening for cancer, as many ofus are unaware of any changes before our scans pick them up.

Please try not to worry about your operation. What procedure are you due to have and when are you due to have it? I had a lumpectomy 11 years ago and a double mastectomy for a second cancer the following year. I was petrified at the thought of surgery, as I have problems with anaesthesia as well as the usual worries. In the event, surgery was a breeze and the care staff in both hospitals were absolutely marvellous.

The wait to find whether or not there is any lymph node involvment and to ensure that your surgeon has achieved clear margins, is always a tense time, but we all have to get through it. The best way is to try and keep busy.

We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Thanks for the replying to my message I was so nervous.

I've literally just come out of surgery, just waiting for my husband to pick me up. I had a lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy have to wait 10 days for my results. Hopefully I'll find enough to keep my busy so my anxiety doesn't get the better of me.

I actually thought they were going to suggest a mastectomy and was trying to prepare for that,  Who knows what the future holds.  I'm just glad the first part is over with.  I'm hopeful but remaining realistic.

It's so good to hear from a survivor its made me feel so much better thank you

    Hi Victoria,

I didn't realize that you were having your surgery so soon, but am delighted to hear that it is all behind you now. You will probably feel a little tender at present, but things will settle down soon. I am glad to hear that you intend to keep yourself busy, but don't overdo things, as you may feel very tired. Doimg something as simple as a jigsaw can help to keep you occupied and take your mind off the wait.

There are many of us survivors on this site, so please remain reassured by that.

Please keep in touch and let us know when you get your results.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Thanks for the advice, I must say the green wee from the dye was a bit of a surprise but they told me that will go in a few days.

I'm a bit stiff and sore this morning so just did my post op exercises which seem to have helped.

I will definitely let you know my results.

    Thanks again

    Hi Victoria,

It's just as well that they warn us about the dye - it usually returns to normal in 3-4 days. You will be a bit sore today, but will quickly begin to feel better. Make sure that you do your exercises regularly. This makes all the difference to your mobility and recuperation. Did you manage to sleep well last night?

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
