Update on referral wait

Hi all, just thought I would do a quick update. I spent an hour in a queue on the phone to appointments this afternoon and when I finally got to speak to someone, very briefly, I was told again there is a backlog due to covid and they have no idea when I will be seen. She said I was definitely on the prioroty list but couldn't say exactly where I was on the list or how long I would have to wait.  Not much help there, and I'm no wiser now.

  • Hi Lilyjo,

I am so sorry to hear that you didn't get any further with your phone call today. Some parts of the country are experiencing delays due to the pandemic. I know just how frustrating this can be and, I sincerely hope that you get an appointment through soon.

Please let us know if you hear anything.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine, thank you for replying.

I know many of us are in the same boat at the moment due to covid, and I'm sure there are people with more urgent needs than mine. It's not as though I'm that worried about it being cancer. I'm just not a very patient person  and I hate things coming to a standstill and not being able to do anything about it.

    Hi Lilyjo,

No matter how urgent our needs actually are, we all want to stop the stress and get seen as soon as possible. I don't imagine that you'll have that much longer to wait.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,  I rang my surgery today to see if they had any information. I spoke to one of the secretary's and she said they are as much in the dark as I am. All she could tell me is the bookings are about 4 weeks behind so I expect to hear in about another 2 weeks. X

  •

    Hi Lilyjo,

I am glad to hear that you managed to get a little further forward today. I know that you won't want to wait another 2 weeks, but it is stilll better knowing this, than not knowing anything.

Keeping my fingers crossed that it comes through then or possibly even sooner.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

Just to say I have finally got an appointment. They rang this afternoon and offered me one on Sunday. It's an hour and a half on the bus but I don't care, I'm going. It's actually at my preferred hospital, but I wasn't prepared for it being a Sunday, so had to hurriedly search for bus times:happy:.

  •

    Hi LilyJo,

I am delighted to hear that your appointment has come through at long last. It's good news that you don't have too long to wait until Sunday. They must be working overtime to try and get the waiting lists down.

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

I hope that all turns out well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks Jolamine. The lady on the phone did say they are putting on extra clinics to get through the backlog. I only hope everything coincides with the busses, as they are 2 hours between them so a long wait if I miss one coming back. It's also occured to me that I may have to go back if I need mammogram or ultrasound, I'm not sure they will be running on a Sunday. X

  •

    Hi Lilyjo,

You may well find other facilities shut, but you never know, as some hospitals still have everything up and running. Here's hoping that this will be so for you and you don't have to make a seperate journey for scans, etc.

Two hours is a long wait between busses - I hope that everything coincides for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine. Just back from the clinic, all is well, it's just a cyst. I had a mammogram and ultra sound and the doctor said there was nothing to indicate cancer, so that was a relief.

Nothing open cafe wise at the hospital so I had to kick about for 2 hours. I had a walk down the road and a look in a big retail warehouse to pass half an hour and then went back and sat under the bus shelter. It hailed, snowed and sleeted most of the time but not too cold .

    Hope you are well
