Liver metastasis - ablation when in palliative care

Hi there,

My dad has been told he is now into palliative care for liver metastasis following bowel cancer two years ago.
He has a considerable number of small tumour on and inside his liver. He has been told he probably has months to live.

Has anyone been in this position and got private liver ablation to prolong their life? If so which hospital and what were the circumstances for treatment?

My parents have been together since they were 15 and don't want to be parted. They are still very much in love at 72 and 69. Any help you can give us would mean everything.

thank you

  • Hello Suzie

I'm sorry to hear about your Dad's recent news. It's obviously a very difficult time for you all and it's understandable that you may want to investigate all possible options for your Dad.

I don't know if we have any members here who have been through similar circumstances, hopefully, if we do they will post to share their experience with you. I'd encourage you to speak to your Dad's Consultant for advice and you may want to explore requesting a second opinion. We have some information about this on our website here

You could also give our team of nurses a call to chat things through. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any information and support that they can. If you'd like to speak to them they're available on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm) and will be back in the office after the bank holiday weekend.

    Best wishes,
