Reason MRI scan after colonoscopy

My husband had blood in his stool and for that reason had a colonoscopy. During that procedure he had a few polyps found, biopsy taken. His doctor phoned him and said he got results of his colonoscopy and he will need to do mri scan on my husbands bowels. He didn't say if he found or not any cancerous cells. Would he say that on the phone? Is that the reason for mri scan- that he found cancerous cells? Why did he not mention that? I just wonder what are the options, fearing the worst. Is it possible they would do mri scan if they didn't suspect cancer?

  • Hi Agata,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's hard to specifically suggest why they might have asked for the scan. They have deemed it necessary likely because they need to find out more about something or they don't have the full picture yet. The only thing to really do is wait until this is done and you have all the information - I know this is easier said than done though and it's easy to assume certain things.

I hope you find out more soon.

    Wishing you all the best,
