Appendix cancer

Hello anyone been diagnosed with appendix cancer in their 50s

just been informed they have found incidental cancer from my appendix taken out early Dec 20 only informed last week just had colonoscopy- not nice biopsies taken now need a CT scan in next week for that - how long do you normally wait for results and the MDT to sort out a plan - surgeon says a right hemicolectomy ?
not looking forward to that either - feel like my world has collapsed

  • Hello Foxylady12

I'm sorry to hear about your recent diagnosis. I'm sure it's been an incredibly difficult time as this has all been discovered incidentally after your recent surgery.

I know we've had members post here in the past who have been through similar experiences. You might find it helpful to have a look at this thread. I can also see that [@Boots1703]‍ posted last year to say that they had had surgery and treatment for appendix cancer. As I've tagged them into my reply here they may see your post and reply to share their experiences with you.

It can often help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to have a chat with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be able to offer some advice and support. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on  0808 800 4040.

I do hope that you don't have to wait too long for your biopsy results and the plan from the MDT. Keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello

I was diagnosed with appendix cancer in Sept 2017. Long story short.... right hemicolectomy, chemo and a year and a half back to work before it spread to ovary (hysterectomy) and now spread to the diaghram and bowel. Referred to specialist hospital for treatment. Now going through chemotherapy to reduce the spreading before HIPEC treatment. Been such a rollercoaster. Very rare. Good to speak to others that have went through this awful disease. :-(
