    Hi Mak,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I know that this can all seem a bit alarming. Don't worry about all of these tests. They are normal, if you want to find out what is happening. I haven't had the same problems as you, but I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years amnd, just had to reply to your post when I saw it.

The best thing you can do at the moment is to stop googling, as you'll only scare yourself further for no useful purpose. Just remember that it isn't cancer, until you're told that it's cancer.

I sincerely hope that your additional tests find a simpler cause. Have you been having any symptoms before these tests were carried out?

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine

  • I also meant to say, I hope you are doing well after your diagnosis. Are you still having treatment?

    Hi Mak,

I am not a doctor, but I understand that there may be a number of simpler solutions to your symptoms. Most referrals which could lead to a cancer diagnosis are made as urgent. This is because the sooner any cancer is caught, the better the outcome tends to be, but it certainly does not mean that all referrals will turn out to be sinister.

I am glad to hear that you feel slightly better having read this forum and sincerely hope that all turns out well for you.

Please let us know how you get on on Tuesday. I recently had a third scare, but just have one more test to go. So far all of the others are clear, so here's hoping.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Mak, I'm somewhat further down the road to diagnosis from you, but still in the same position. I had a scan which showed a large abdominal mass, which is complex. After my 2 week referral I was extremely worried as I'm in a high risk group for cancer, apparently they use an algorithm to work out your risk and I was told my score was 380, high risk is 200. My CA125 is 130.

I've since had a CT which has no evidence of spread. It's like being on an emotional rollercoaster I can't get off. They won't be able to tell me if it's cancer or not until I have surgery, I'm currently awaiting a bed to become available in HDU. I've started to use the Headspace App which has been extremely helpful. I was given some Diazepam by my GP to help with the Anxiety, however I've only taken 1 tablet so far. If I think I'm becoming too anxious I just put the app on for a few minutes and do an emergency calm down exercise and that's really working for me. Good luck with your scan and procedure.

  • Hi Mak,

My initial symptom was pain in my lower left abdomen in October, I had been stretching, so initially thought I'd pulled a muscle. Then my doctor rang in November and said my routine blood tests had a some worrying features and I mentioned the pain and he said he'd repeat the bloods and send me for a chest X-ray and scan if they still weren't right. In the meantime I found a swelling just below my navel, this was 1st December. Went to see a different doctor who said it was a hernia and when I mentioned the bloods he still said it was nothing and not to worry.

The following week I got a phone call to repeat bloods (3rd time). The pain came back worse than ever, but I was told it's just a bowel spasm. I have been suffering from constipation with some bloating, so just accepted this. Given antispasmodic and sent home. They then rang again and asked me to repeat bloods! I insisted that I needed to speak to a clinician who reluctantly sent me for chest X-ray and a scan on 5th Feb. The lady doing the ultrasound told me to ring my doctor and get an urgent referral to Gynaecologist. I rang, but they wouldn't let me speak to a doctor. Fortunately the lady who did the scan rang them and I got my urgent referral. I went there and they referred me to our regional centre for gynaecological oncology. I'm now under their care, thank goodness.
