Waiting times due to Co.vid

Hi there,  I was just yesterday referred from my GP for a mammogram due to me finding a lump in my breast.  Apparently normal NHS wait times are 2 weeks, but could be up to 3months because of Co.vid. Can anyone give me an idea of waiting time during this? Thankyou

  • Hi, I went to GP after finding a lump last June and was very lucky I got an appointment at the hospital the following day at a clinic where I had a mammogram, a scan and biopsy and saw consultant all at the same time. I would think you will be seen within the 2 weeks as it is a referral and not a routine mammogram.

Waiting is a very anxious time but I have been told all through my treatment which is still ongoing that it has not been affected by Covid. I hope your wait isn’t too long.

    Regards Kay

  • Thankyou for reply, hopefully it will all be looked into soon, as you say its an anxious time the waiting part . I wish you every success with your treatment.

    Best wishes Jackie

    Hi Jackie,

A very warm welcome to our forum. Did your GP refer you to a breast clinic, or just for a mammogram? You will find that waiting times vary throughout the country due to the pandemic. If given an urgent referral (this is the more usual pathway) to the breast clinic, most people are still being seen within the 2 week time frame. If given a routine referral this can take months. Likewise, if referred for a routine mammogram it could take months.

It might be worth clarifying this with your GP and, asking for an urgent referral to the breast clinic, which will be the quickest pathway.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

  • Hi thanks for reply,  it is an urgent referral it was my GP that said its usually 2weeks but has been longer and can take up to 3months she has heard I'm in Scotland  hopefully it will just be the 2 weeks and she was maybe just erring on the side of caution with the length of waiting time.

    Thankyou

    Hi Jackie,

I'm in the same part of the country and only had to wait 2 weeks for my tests recently.

    Kind regards,

  • Thankyou Jolamine,  hope all went well for you.
