Waiting on referral to breast clinic

I'm Ellie, and I'm 18 years old. About early January, I found a lump inside my breast which I'd say is about 1cm big, I got it checked out at my doctors, and the doctor said whilst she initially found it difficult to find, it does feel like a 'mass of tissue'? She referred me to the breast clinic in January, but it's almost April and I've still heard nothing about even going. I feel as if it's attached to the tissue, and whilst I was confident it was smooth at first I now feel like it feels like it has a slight edge on one side if that makes sense which absolutely terrifies me doubled with the fact it's painless, there's been no physical changes on the outside of my breast so far though.

I understand I'm not making any sense whatsoever but I'm terrified which is only made worst by the fact I haven't heard anything else regarding my appointment and whilst I know you shouldn't Google these things it's hard not to, I live alone, and I hate bothering my mum but I'm utterly terrified and at this point, I'd rather know if it was cancer or not so I could look at my options or finally breathe for once in the past three months. I also stopped getting my period for about two months which could be normal, but doubled with this is scaring me horribly.

  • Hi Ellie,

I'm sorry to hear about your worries. I too am waiting for an appoinment to be checked (although not as long as you have). Have you called for an update? My gp told me that if I haven't heard from the clinic, then I should contact my gp and ask for an update. They told me they will get in touch within 3-5 days. Don't be terified, ask for an update. Keep persisting :) I wish you the best of luck!

  • It's the waiting that's scaring me honestly, I'm very much in the mindset that the sooner I get it checked, the sooner I can stop worrying, or god forbid start treatment. My mum is going to phone tomorrow to try and get an update, hopefully I'll hear something back.

  • I honestly have the same mindset as you. I'm so scared waiting not knowing what's about to happen, always thinking of the worst. I've cried countless times. But this isn't the way to go. Google is so bad for this, I keep telling myself. But bear in mind that there's absolutely no benefit in worrying, it will not solve or make the situation better, it will only make it worse. Haha it's an advice that I've been trying to implement in my brain too but it isn't easy. Being in this forum has made me realise that I'm not alone in this and so are you.  Don't worry and good luck.

  • Thank you, and good luck to you too. I keep trying to tell myself the same thing but it eats up at you so quickly
