Distal cholangiocarcinoma

Hello a friend was diagnosed with distal cholangiocarcinoma last year. Told unresectable due to tumor involving the blood vessels. Locally advanced distal cholangio. had chemo CIS/GEM and then radiotherapy. Radiotherapy was given over 5 days. How bad can fatigue be post radiotherapy? How long does it last for? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks

I'm sorry to hear about your friend's diagnosis. I hope that treatment hasn't meant they have had to deal with too many side effects.

Side effects tend to start a week after the radiotherapy begins. They gradually get worse during the treatment and for a couple of weeks after the treatment ends. Tiredness can carry on for some weeks after the treatment has ended but it usually improves gradually. We've some information on our website here which may be of help.

If you'd like to speak to one of our team of nurses then you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. Alternatively, if you are worried about your friend, then do get in touch with their GP or Clinical Nurse Specialist for some advice.

I hope things settle and improve soon.

    Best wishes,
