New to forum .

Hi my name is Karen im 60yrs old.  I'm worried about having cervical cancer . My symptoms are pain in lower back pains in abdomen discharge with blood but tonight there has been more pink blood . I spoke to my doctor last week and she took a swab from me and said I will be contacted by the hospital for tests.  How long do you think I will have to wait before being seen by the hospital. I try not to think about it but I'm now starting to get anxious.  Thanks Karen.

  • Hi Karen,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of your worries and the uncertainy about this, I can understand this must be unsettling. It's hard to advise on how long to expect to wait - it will depend partly on how concerned the doctor was and whether the referral was classed as urgent. If it was, you should find out more within around 2-3 weeks. Naturally at the moment waiting times are a little longer in most places.

I do hope you're able to find out more soon, and in the meantime we're always here for support. I can see you've been speaking to a few others on here so I hope the forum provides some help.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Hi Karen

I’m presuming you are post menopausal? I would check with your doctor if you’ve been put on a 2 week referral as any post menopausal bleeding should be a red flag and a quick referral to gynaecology. I hope things move quickly for you as it’s an anxious time waiting.

  • Hi thanks you Ben I am hoping it's not to long I keep telling myself that everything will be OK then sometimes the dreaded fear creeps in . X

  • Yes I'm post menopausal have been now for several years.  It's hard not to be anxious even when I try not to be .xxx

  • Hi Karen, I hope you don't have to wait too long for tests, that is very stressful, I know. I was diagnosed with stage 2A cervical cancer in November 2012. Try to take it one day, one appointment at a time and don't google your symptoms, etc.. everyone's situation is different so alot of what you read probably doesn't apply. Good luck and keep us posted.

  • Hi Laura , thank you for the feed back it's very much appreciated.  I haven't told anyone that I'm going for test as my family have been through so much , three of my husband family have died , one Nov, one Dec and one in Jan two from covid  that why I can't tell my family just yet .
