Neck lump

Hi everyone!

I just thought I would jump on here to see if anyone has experienced a hard lump/swelling in the neck?

I had a follow up appointment yesterday for an operation I had last year (really rare sinus problem) and I mentioned to the consultant I had this lump just below my earlobe/jaw (I believe the technical name is the partoid gland!) which I first noticed last November. He now wants me to have an urgent scan and said depending on what that shows, I could then possibly have to have a biopsy. The only thing he said was that it could be one of two things:

1) A salivary gland issue

2) A lymph node

Of course I consulted Dr Google when I left the hospital and it's given me the worst case scenarios!!! I have recently had lots of bloods done because I'm tired all the time and everything (apart from low Vit D) has come back within the normal ranges.

I'm a born worrier anyway and I am now scared stiff! Has anyone else been through the same experience?

  • Hello Mrs_MC

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some concerns about a lump you recently discovered. It sounds as if the Consultant is moving quickly to get this checked and whilst sometimes this can leave people feeling anxious hopefully, you won't have to wait too long for answers.

Do try to give Dr. Google a wider berth as unfortunately, as you've already found, it will lead you to a worst-case scenario and leave you feeling more anxious about things. If you'd like to talk to someone then you could give our team of nurses a call. I'm sure they would be happy to give you some support and advice whilst you're waiting for your scan. They're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Jenn,

Thank you for your kind words, I will definitely be giving Dr Google a huge body swerve now, as my anxiety is through the roof!

Hopefully I won't wait too long and can then deal with it.
