So frightened

Hi I’m new to this site, about a year ago I started with terrible upper back pain mainly in the right side and shoulder, doctors have continually put it down to a muscular strain however it doesn’t feel anything like that it’s a dull ache that doesn’t go away even when resting, 4 weeks ago I started with very tender breasts I thought this could be due to my time of month but still the pain is there, I’m now terrified the two could be linked. I’m due a mammogram in a week but so so scared x

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat, Hayleigh.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation but I'm glad you took action and went to have your symptoms checked.

As many of our members can tell you, the waiting game can be one of the toughest parts so I'm glad you came to us, as chatting with those who can relate does seem to help.

You mentioned you're due to have a mammogram next week, I hope that goes well for you. Once you know more, please come back and give us an update.

    Best wishes,

    Renata, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Our NHS are totally fantastic, well once you go to the specialised areas in the hospitals, and they will be doing all the checks.  I have been recently diagnosed, we do over worry especially when adverts state one in two will have cancer, but have your checks and know you are in safe hands.  Todays technology is excellent, and so is the support.  Good luck and I hope it is good news, a friend of mine had a painful tender breasts ( in her 50s) and after the mammogram nothing showed and that was 5 years ago, and she is well. I am not sure of your age, but menopausal conditions cause havoc on our bodies.

If you are concerned on your back pain, push for further investigation, keep a diary and log when it hurts, and what you have done.

    Take care x
