Recently diagnosed

Hi, it’s all happened quite quickly following my positive routine breast scan two weeks ago. A DCIS was diagnosed and I’ve been asked to choose between two procedures. One is a Therapeutic mammoplasty, the other a “flap” (diep I think but need to confirm with my key worker). This I’m finding a difficult choice / decision as my knowledge is limited. I am planning to do research but has anyone else been faced with this decision and how did you begin to make your choice? Thanks so much. Maybe a no. I cd call for advice/ information.

    Hi Jish,

A very warm welcome to our forum although I'm sorry to hear why you've joined. It is good news that you have caught this early and that you can try to prevent it from spreading. Making a choice is always difficult when we don't have the knowledge to make an informed decision. The best thing you can do is to draw up a list of your concerns and to discuss this with your consultant and breast care nurse. These are the people who have experience to back up any choice made. Researching yourself, won't take into account any other medical considerations for surgery. Your care team have all the necessary details to give you the best advice.

You can always phone your breast care nurse for further advice. I hope that you manage to reach the best decision for you and, that you can be happy with this.

Please keep in touch and let us know how things turn out. Hopefully, someone who has had experience of a similar situation will come along to chat to you soon. Remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
