Hi my name is Liz. About mid February I contacted my gp as I could hear a crackling and had pain like muscle cramps, whilst lying in my bed and was hoarse too but didn't have a sore throat. I had a phone consultation (as you do these days!) with my doc and he gave me antibiotics for a chest infection. Fast forward a week and i still had the same symptoms but this wasn't like any chest infection I've had before inasmuch as it wasn't "wet". I wasn't coughing gunge up, so I called the doc on the Monday he told me to go and see him on the Tuesday then referred me down to our local hospital for a chest xray. After the xray and blood tests, I was told I had fluid on my left lung and a blood clot and was being kept in. The next day after a ct scan I was told it was fluid on the lung and a lump at the top of my lung they were concerned about and it may be cancer. As someone who's never smoked or drank or had any family history it came as a teary, snottery shock.
The following day 1.5 litres of fluid was drained from my lung and I was sent for a ct on my stomach and pelvis, which came back clear.
Last week I had an appointment with the doctor at the hospital and she told me that the results from the fluid were inconclusive and that they wanted to a ct biopsy. So tomorrow I go for a covid test and a chest xray as I can still hear some crackling at night in bed, Friday I've to have the biopsy and next Wednesday I get the results from it.
I can honestly say I've never been so scared in my life and I have no one who has been through anything similar to talk to about it. I'm worried about the biopsy as I'm not sure what to expect, I'm worried about the results and what they may bring and I worry about this 2 -3cm lump that I have growing inside me.
I went to stay with my 84 year old dad at the start of covid so that he wouldn't be alone although he still drives, plays bowls and is very independent but he just keeps telling me its not cancer and ill be fine and deep down I believe that I will be fine but I am so glad that I have found this forum. We're all members of a club we never asked to join and I hope that over the next few weeks and months I can chat to some of you at some point.
Liz x
