Severe Dyskaryosis

Hi everyone,

I have just had my colposcopy after testing positive for hpv and severe Dyskaryosis. I know it's likely that I will need the treatment but has anyone ever experienced this result but not needed the treatment ??

im so worried and it's really affecting me, I'm 27 with 2 young children and my first smear when 25 came back normal so it's a complete shock and I just can't stop thinking about it.. the thought of waiting 4-6 weeks for the result is just horrible and it's only been 2 days! I also keep reading so many negative stories and it's just sending me through the roof I literally can't focus on anything

thanks x

  • Sorry this doesn't answer your question but I'm in the same position at the moment. I received my results letter but haven't had an appointment for the colposcopy.

can I ask how long it was I between getting your results and the appointment for your colposcopy?

  • Well I had my smear last month then just this Wednesday gone I had a phone call from the hospital saying they had a cancellation for the next day(Thursday) for the colposcopy. She said it's normally a few weeks wait for the colposcopy but this was a cancellation.. so I think I were quite lucky to get it so quick! But she said it's normally a number of weeks for it.

the only thing with mine I got the phone call for the colposcopy before I had even received my letter of results from the smear  so it was such a shock.. I funnily enough received the letter once I got home from the hospital on the Thursday -_-  X

  • Thank you for the reply.

oh no, that must have been very scary! It's such a shock. I had rang my doctors yesterday for the results as I hadn't received a letter but had the smear around 4 weeks ago. They told me over the phone what the results were and I got the letter today.

One of the positive things I've read is that it can take 10-20 years for the abnormal cells to turn into cancer. Which is what I'm focusing on (trying to).

Wishing you the best for your results!

  • I've read that too! My sister actually had an abnormal smear and biopsy last year and her results came back that she needed no treatment! She's yet to have her yearly smear.. she can't remember if they were low/moderate or severe though! There are so many positives but it's just so easy to see the negatives!

Wishing you all the best too xx
