Breast concerns

Hi everyone.

I am really looking for some advice or reassurance. I'm 17 years old and have been very nervous about breast cancer since an early age. My mum is a mammographer so I believe that could be why I'm so hyper-aware. The top half of both of my breasts have always been very firm and solid when you pinch them. This has somewhat lessened as I've gotten older but it's still very apparent. I am too afraid to speak to my mum and I just want to know if this is normal? My breasts are usually somewhat lumpy but what concerns me is the thickness in the top half of both breasts. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

  • Welcome to the forum Anonymous although I'm sorry to read what's troubling you.

As you'll see here, the appearance of breasts and nipples can vary quite a bit but if you're concerned and don't feeling comfortable discussing it with your mum just yet, do think about booking an appointment to see your GP as they'll be able to let you know if this is any cause for concern.

I hope this helps but our team of cancer nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to have a quick chat with them about this as well.

    Kind regards,
