Question about stent

Hi , I hipe

everyone is well .

my father (79)  had the whipple surgery in may of 2019 and the. Six months chemotherapy for pancreatic cancer , luckily caught early in stage 1 . His life after the whipple has been quite challenging and he certainly isn't as fit as he used to be now . Everything that I I've been reading about his overall general symptoms seems to be fairly normal and he only has had occasional pain .

he recently had a scan ( after his bloods showed normal ) as he had occasional abdominal pain and he found out he had  slight inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis )

where the stent was initially put in . It isn't a tumour but they are going to keep an eye on it incase it is the beginnings of one and today they said they will wait and see how it is in six months time . I was just wondering if anyone else has had this experience ? And if it's something to worry about . I feel mixed about it but I am glad that it isn't a tumour or advanced cancer .

  • Hello Shanksy67,

Welcome to Cancer Chat! It's good they caught your dad's pancreatic cancer at an early stage and it must have been a huge relief to find out that this slight inflammation of the pancreas which is located where the stent was initially put in isn't a tumour. It's good though that they are going to keep a close eye on it and that it will be checked again in six months' time.

I hope that you will hear from the experience of some of our other members to whom this has happened before or who have looked after someone who has had the same issue following the Whipple procedure.

Perhaps you could also give our cancer nurses a call and talk to them about this? You can call their free helpline on 0808 800 4040 - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope your dad is doing well at the moment and that treatment has been effective.

    Best wishes,
