Smear results are taking so long

I had HPV detected 12 months ago and recently had another smear.  I've been waiting over 4 weeks. The doctors receptionist Advised they are back but still with the doctor.  I thought they were automatically sent to both myself and the doctor.  Why would the doctor be looking at them first? Is this normal practice,  would this mean they are abnormal again?

    Unfortunately due to the pandemic, a lot of test results are taking longer to come through at the moment. The questions you've asked towards the end of your post are ones I can't answer I'm afraid but our team of nurses may be able to help so if you'd like to have a quick chat with them about this then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040.
