Cancer worries

My partner has recently had an MRI scan on his prostate. He had a blood test reading of 5.8. He had a phone call today asking him to attend a face to face meeting at the hospital for 2 weeks time.Unfortunately this conversation was with a receptionist so she could give him much information about which kind of doctor he would be seeing. We are now waiting for a letter for more information. I am really worried about this meeting. Most people at the moment are having phone consultations why is he having a face to face. Is it going to be bad news. He has not had a biopsy or anything yet. So what could this meeting be about.  I am getting really worried .

  • Hi Chebenny, I'm sorry you and your partner are going through this stressful time. I thought I would try to give you a bit of reassurance. The blood test you mentioned I believe was the PSA reading, my dad (age 74)had a reading of 1566 which is obviously a lot higher. Unfortunately, he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer but that was 2 years ago and he is doing really well. His is not curable but is very much treatable. Please try not to panic as even if this was the case for your partner, there is so much that can be done to control this cancer. My dad has other non related issues including a heart problem so was unable to have chemo but he is on a hormone medication treatment which is doing a great job of keeping his PSA down, which is now only 0.7!! Dad goes about his normal daily routine, including playing golf, gardening and walking. I really just wanted to reassure you that if it's not the best news there is so much that can be done. Wishing you all the best and crossing my fingers for good news for you both.

Always happy to chat or answer any questions if I can

  • Thank you Ashley for replying.  And thank you for the reassurance and kind words. Must admit we have never had to deal with anything like this before and panicking a little bit and thinking the worst. We haven't even has a proper diagnosis yet. Hoping for the best. So glad you dad is well and getting on with life and hope it continues for many years. Thank you again
