First day

Hello,

My dad had a cough for a few months, was very well but had a chest x-ray last week. We were all blind sided after it showed a large mass in his right lung. We have today received his CT results which were devastating. He has multiple nodes in his lungs and some mesenteric nodes. I am medical and presume these are mets. He has no symptoms apart from a cough. His bloods are plum normal and we are now waiting for him to see a specialist on Friday.

As I said I am medical and understand no diagnosis has been made yet but can anyone tell me how to support my parents right now. They are devastated, numb and  my dad (also retired medical) feels he is a condemned man.

What do I say? I am trying to be positive but I'm desperate to tell them something to get them through today. Or do I just let them lick their wounds today?

Any suggestions please, thank you
