HPV Positive & CGIN

Good evening all,

I am soon to be 38, I have two beautiful children and happily married.

I had a smear end of Feb and received my referral letter for colpscopy within a two week timeframe, I called to speak to my doctor but had to book a telephone appt. Monday morning I received a call to go in that afternoon, this I liked this quick turn around as no long period overthinking it whilst waiting. My doctor very kindly called me Monday after my call from the hospital to discuss my results, this gave me a chance to have a read up and have an understanding of what CGIN meant. When I arrived everyone was talkative, kind and very calming as i went in. The doctor then explained that I would need to have a biopsy taken and that he would take the neck of my cervix as that was were my changes are.

What I am finding a little frustrating is the six week wait, in one breathe I am saying the longer it takes the better as no news, is good news. With another breathe I am cross and frustrated the process to get reaults takes that long!!! I know in most cases its all fine and nothing to worry about but speaking to my mum, she told me she had a hysterectomy due to changes and so did my Mum's mum. I am not worried about having any surgery as I would prefer the risk taken out than left in but the waiting is killing me, its only been two days.

  • Hello S4V4GE,

I just wanted to welcome you to our forum. I hope you won't have to wait too long for your biopsy results. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting for these important results.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. Waiting really is the hardest thing and two days of waiting can feel like a lifetime but there are some good tips on this page on how to cope while waiting for news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you so much for replying, this forum has helped me so much already!

  • Hi, I just had to reply and tell you my story. I hope it has been sorted for you now. I also had cgin. Diagnosed in January. I had to wait a week for my appointment and they took a biopsy. Within a week I was called up by the hospital and asked to come in. I'm 42 and have two children. They said I didn't have cancer but had precancerous cells and I needed a hysterectomy. I was booked in and 6 weeks later I had my operation. I have oestrogen patches and have had a great recovery. I'm enjoying not having any heavy periods anymore and it has all been positive. My only concern is my joints are a little stiffer. I hope you managed to get sorted.

  • My daughter had cgin this year diagnosed on colposcopy biopsy , she is young with 2 babies. Luckily the cells were all removed with the first lletz and she will be reviewed every 6 months , all cgin cases go to MDT which is reassuring . Her turnover results were excellent and colposcopy lady brilliant who she will see again in a few months . We are keeping positive , she was hpv positive too , fingers crossed for you xxx
