Need colopscopy and worried

Please don't judge, i went for my first smear in November, i am 40, i have never had the courage to go before. The smear was a nightmare the nurse gave up and refered me to the hospital as she said she couldn't do it as my cervix was too low! I have had my hospital appointment in early feb for the smear and today 4 weeks later i got a call whist at work with no warning letter from hospital that i need a colopscopy, my nerves are shot now that i have left it too late and it will be serious

  • Hello Freya and welcome to the forum.

First of all, I just want to say well done for going for your screening. It can be quite a daunting prospect, especially if you've never had one before, so you should be very proud of yourself for mustering up the courage to go.

I know this is easier said than done but try not to worry about the colposcopy. As you'll see here it's actually quite a common procedure and I'm sure our members who have had this done will be along soon to offer their support and advice.

Our team of nurses are available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m if you'd like to have a chat with them about this as well.

I hope this helps and your colposcopy goes well when the time comes.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
