I have had groin pain which feels like period pains for over a year now and its getting worse. I am now getting pain in the top of my legs. I am taking quite a lot of painkillers which arent helping.

The best thing to do if you haven't done so already is to make an appointment with your GP who will be in the best position to tell you more about what these long term groin pains might be. Do mention that the painkillers you have been taking haven't been helping. It's definitely important to get this checked out by a doctor who will be best placed to tell you what it might be.
