First Appointment??

So I am 22 and recently found multiple, rather large lumps in my neck. I was referred urgently to the hospital. I have an appointment on Tuesday with a haematology consultant in the oncology department and I am quite anxious about it. I would just like to know what I can expect from the very first appointment. Any info would be grand.

Many thanks,

Robyn

  • Hi robyn,

I am 21, as everyone's appointments are different (different reasons) I can only go by my experience in August 2020, I was reffered to a ENT surgeon who asked me questions, felt around my neck& she had a look down my throat with a camera on a lil thin tube thing don't no the professional name haha! And many months passed and many scans and appointments and mine turned out to b thyroid cancer and my neck lump was actually a enlarged lymth node :/ but anyway yours can completey but something different and benign, but I want u to no what ever the outcome is you will be OK, I was like you looking on here for answers, using "Dr Google", I'm over the worse now the gruelling 11hour opetation& radioactive treatment and I'm doing very well, I would love to hear back from you and to hear how your appointment went feel free to message me if you would like a chat!! :)

    Much love, Georgia xx

  • Hi Geebee123,

Thank you for your response! I hope you are doing ok!

So I've just seen the haematology consultant who said the lump on my neck wasn't too big and that my bloods seemed reactive. He has referred me for an ultrasound with a potential biopsy if they feel i need one and then a telephone appointment 3 weeks from today. However, I don't really know what to feel as this wasn't definite no you don't have it or yes it is suspected. So I'm feeling a little lost and confused.

  • Hi robyn,

Thankyou for your response, I was feeling the exact same as you when I was reffered for a ultrasound and I did have a biopsy my self that was because they wernt sure what it was weather it was benign or cancerous however my every appointment I went to i had a lil cry before I went in because I was scared of the not knowing and also I was abit confused because at the same time I was sort of relived that I was getting to the bottom of what this lump was on my neck, so in all its completely normal to feel lost and confused I was the exact same, so your not on your own there! I hope u get to the bottom of  everything and hopefully fingers crossed for you that it's jus a benign lump.

If you would like to please keep in contact with me, I would like to be on this emotional roller-coaster with u as I felt I didn't have anyone in board with me.

Keep me up dated and any questions you have about anything I will b more than happy to answer them for you from my own experience.
