High platelet count

Recently got a high platelet count from the Dr. He said he would check it again in a few weeks. Ive had bad heartburn making me sick for about a year. Just wondering if this would be maybe something worth monitoring as I think the two are linked some how.

  • Hello Nb965

I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with some ongoing health concerns. I'm afraid that I don't know if they could be linked but it's certainly something you should discuss with your GP at your next appointment.

I hope that things settle for you soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Nb965

My son was diagnosed 10 years ago with similar symptons. He suffered terrible heart burn for 4 months and was checked by an ENT consultant twice and told it was indigestion. However he was also awaiting a hernia operation and when checked for pre-op was found to have raised blood pressure then had an ECG which showed his heart was not working properly. Finally diagnosed with thrombocythemia, the bone marrow makes too many platelets and thickens the blood which can create blood clots and puts a strain on the heart and he had in fact had a heart attack. It is rare in younger people and even more so in males. He now takes medication. I post this as it was missed both by his GP and the ENT person and if picked up earlier he wouldn't have had the angina and subsequent heart attack.

Best wishes and I hope  things improve for you
