Iv been on letrazol for 2 years, the side effects have put 10 years on me. I rang the oncologist he said since iv also had radiotherapy to come off them. So yesterday I stopped taking them. Anyone else come off them.

Hi Issy,
I too was prescribed hormone treatment last year. (Think mine were Anastrozole though).
Anyway I was never keen to take them given the awful side affects. So I started taking them every other day. Not sure why really but it was a sign from the get-go that these tablets weren't going to be for me I think!!
Even at 50% of the dose they affected my mood more than anything. I just felt life wasn't great. On top of that I felt after the diagnosis (always a bombshell!) and the operation followed by radiotherapy I needed a bit of 'up time'!! Anyway I stopped them altogether within about 4 months I think. Two weeks later I started to feel brighter. Life was worth living again.
I didn't get bad joint pain like so many but I perhaps didn't take them for long enough?
My oncologist said he wasn't overly worried about me not taking them as, like you, I had had a course of radiotherapy. I do at times wonder if I am making a mistake. They DO offer (in my case) a very small protective factor but it's as little as 1.5%. I feel by exercising each day, keeping my weight down and by eating very healthily I can protect myself in equal amount.
So yes I have come to the same conclusion as you. Sounds like you were much more compliant about taking the hormones than I have been though.
I do hope you feel ok with your decision not to take the meds. It IS a big decision for sure! In any event the tablets are still there should you change your mind.
I guess it's down to personal choice. As I said I feel it's a tiny risk (but a risk nonetheless) but I choose to feel well and strong. I take my hat off to the women on this site who go through agonies owing to hormonal treatment. I know many women have little choice though. Their cancer was at a later stage or more widespread than mine. I feel I was left with some room for manoeuvre.
Stay well.
Kebbs.
Letrozole reduces recurrence risk by up to 50 per cent not sure where you get these numbers from ....I am on it for 10 years and never miss a tablet. Before they were around survival rates for 5 years were about 60 per cent even when cancer hadn't 't spread now it is 90 per cent please reconsider .. you are risking your chances of long term survival have been taking AIs since July 2019 the side effects fade with time you also need to exercise and keep your weight down
