Neck lymph node swollen

Hi guys. Around 2 months ago I noticed a lump in my throat and my left lymph node on my neck was swollen, which it still is now. It's not painful and doesn't hurt when I eat or drink but I have been experiencing other symptoms such as tiredness and lack of energy.

Last week I went to see my doctor as I thought it may be cancerous and the doctor sent me for a blood test to test for CRP (C Reactive Proteing), ESR and FBC. I called today to find out about the results and they said the results came back fine.

As happy as I was to hear this, I'm still a bit worried as my left swollen lymph node is not going down and I've booked a telephone appointment with my GP to discuss this.

Should I ask for a scan or am I just panicking for no reason?

Thank you.

  • Hi Mask2021,

No answers for you I'm afraid but I am in pretty much the same position.  Noticed a swollen gland (right side) about 3 weeks ago which has not gone away.  Had walk-in centre GP appointment where he put the fear of God into me saying I had something 'nasty' on my thyroid!  Really unprofessional.  After neck swelled more down the side I took myself to A&E (felt a bit un-emergency but they were great) on Sunday and had bloods taken, camera up nose / down throat and full check over.  Had call this morning to say ultrasound & fine needle aspiration next Tuesday morning.  I feel like I could not have received better service from the NHS (apart from rather unpleasant 1st doctor!)

I am wondering if they said anything regarding your thyroid function from the bloods, as you have mentioned lack of energy, something I am really struggling with too.  If I was you, I would definitely want more investigations if the swelling is still there?  Mine is about 2x2cm firm immovable lump (according to ENT doctor) plus extra swelling underneath, not sure how yours compares?

When you look at the two cases, I do feel like they have been handled very differently.  I personally think taking myself to A&E, though not something I would normally do, got me much better results.

Not sure if any of this helps, hope you are doing OK x
