Ovarian cyst

I have had a large ovarian cyst on my right ovary for more than 3 years. Up to now it has been monitored every 6 months with ultrasound and CA125 and other blood markers. I now have an MRI scan tomorrow and I am feeling like the situation is never ending. I am in so much pain all the time and nothing seems to be happening. Women's reproductive issues just seem to not be dealt with very seriously. Should I be concerned that they are now asking for MRI instead of ultrasound? I have pain in my abdomen, legs, lower back and sometimes my breasts are so sore it feels unbearable. Should I be worried?

  • Hello, I understand exactly where you are coming from! I too have been diagnosed with an ovarian cyst but mine has just been diagnosed (had urgent referral consultation on Wed with bloods & CT scan yesterday & very anxious about results!). I have seen a gyna privately to comment on my original scan. He alongside my Gp felt removal was the best option. The gyna I saw on Wed (NHS) said he wanted a CT scan to see what else is going on but to scan me in 3/4 months too. In his opinion they don't remove cysts as a matter of course but I said it's over 5cm & very, very painful at times with a dull ache/dragging feeling everyday as the norm for me. His reply was ovarian cysts rarely cause pain unless they're cancerous! Too which I was speechless to say the least!
