After invasive melanoma surgery

I was wondering if anyone has had these symptoms after surgery...

here is about my experience, so I was diagnosed with stage 1 invasive melanoma after a mole removal 2 weeks ago. Yesterday I had my surgery to remove the tissue containing the melanoma and healthy skin and tissue around it. I was awake when they did the procedure as they used a local anaesthetic. Since returning home I have felt sick to my stomach, I have been shaking, I keepgetting a dry mouth, and the pain where the surgery was is awful it's really soar, it was in the centre top of my back and even the sides of my abdomen are aching I need to know if this is normal or am I getting myself worked up for nothing or should I go get seen?

  • Hi,

I'm sorry your are feeling so unwell after your Wide Local Excision. It's not usual to have such problems after a local anaesthetic & I'm wondering if you've had a reaction to it, rather than a problem with the actual procedure. I hope you are feeling much better today but if not, can I suggest that you contact NHS Direct (due to it being the weekend) and they may send an out of hours GP to check you over. If the nausea etc has resolved itself but you still have a lot of pain, I suggest you take either paracetamol or ibuprofen until you can contact your dermatology clinic on Monday. Please let us know how you get on,

    Angie (melanoma patient)

  • Hi angie,

yes I actually feel better today the pain is still there but controlled with pain relief now, I think it's anxiety the sickness as I'm still waiting for my results which is tormenting I just hope it all comes back clear and they got it all out.
