Abnomal smear and bleeding

I've just had my cervical screening results, hpv virus present and abnormal cells that need treatment and a colposcopy within 2 weeks

I have had some bleeding between periods which has previously been investigated and put down to womb lining growing on the outside of my cervix, and my smears are up to date, but I can't help but fear the worst

  • Hello Woody87

I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling anxious about your recent cervical screening results. We have lots of members who have posted here after similar results and hopefully some of them will reply to share their experiences with you.

When you're feeling anxious it can sometimes help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it useful to chat with one of our nurses. I'm sure they will be able to give you some support and reassurance ahead of your appointment. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi, I'm also very scared as I actually went for a coil removal and told the GP about some other symptoms. When she put the speculum in I felt like my cervix was on fire. She looked extremely alarmed and arranged for me to get a colposcopy. I have my appointment on Monday and I'm 100% convinced I have cancer because of all the other symptoms. I have a 6 year old son and my husband is disabled and my biggest fear is dying and leaving my husband who will have to have our son taken from his care as he is unable to care for himself let alone a child. I'm so worried about it I just keep crying and can barely eat.

I hope you get your colposcopy soon and i prey for negative results for the both of us..

  • Good luck to you for Monday, I'll keep everything crossed for you

I've since spoken to my gp who has confirmed I have aggressive cancerous cells, I'm completely beside myself, also have young children

    Colposcopy on the 1st March

  • Oh gosh! My huge sympathies to you. Let's hope they can burn them away with the colposcopy and everything will be fine. I'm sending you virtual hugs.
I'll let you know how my colposcopy goes if you'd like x

  • Thankyou, hoping and praying it hasn't spread but in a very dark place right now

Please let me know how you get on!
