barrets oesophagus

Hi,

I am 63 yrs old will be  64 in April I had an endoscopy 4 weeks ago and I was so concerned about having the procedure it did not occur to me that they would find anything concerning ,and I was shocked when the nurse handed me a print out of the findings!!! They found a 3cm ulcer in the edophogus and a small hiatal hernia ,also suspected barrets and a biopsy was taken.I worried myself sick and phoned the endcpy dpt .The endoscopist phoned me and said she wished i had called sooner to put my mind at ease as she found nothing sinister at all but confirmed i do have a small area of barrets as there has been a small change in the lining of my gullet ,now i'm on esomeprazole 40mgs twice daily and its not pleasant but its to heal the ulcer and a follow up scope in march and a check up in 3 years ,I have always been healthy   happy and very positive but now I feel as if i have a time bomb inside and have no peace of mind ,can anyone offer any advice ? It wld be most welcome thankyou so much .

  • Hi puck,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It's good to hear that nothing sinister was found, but I can understand your concerns about this.

It may help to talk things through with one of our nurses, as I'm sure they'd be able to offer some advice or thoughts. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

Otherwise, do discuss your results with your doctor if you feel you need further information about what to expect.

    Wishing you all the best,
