Recalled after mammogram

I am posting as have just received a phone call that I need to go back next week for further tests after a mammogram from Jan. I can't help worry that this means cancer especially as I'm on treatment that increases my breast cancer risk plus I've had one painful breast for a few months. My GP had referred me last year but the Breast Care Unit felt it was musculoskeletal +/- hormones. My mammogram was my 1st routine screening as I'm nearly 52.

  • Hi debjay. I went for mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy last Monday and was not allowed to have anyone with me. It was quite tough as the nurse who performed the biopsy said 'yes' when I asked if she thought it was serious. I'm back for results next Monday and have been told I can have someone with me in the hospital. It's been the worse week of my life, if I'm honest. I've made a list of questions and my lovely 28 year old son insists on coming with me.  All my friends and family have offered but he really wants to come so of course he will. He's an only child and I worry so much about him bearing all this. What a *** this thing is eh?  Be strong xx

  • Hi Sandy456,

I'm so sorry you're going through this at mo but what a lovely son you have. Here's hoping for positive results on Monday x

    Hi Debjay,

We can sometimes get too far ahead of ourselves before we know what we're dealing with, if anything. My children were young teenagers when I was diagnosed and I fet the same as you. Since then I have seen them go to university, graduate, settle in employment, marry and have a family of their own.

You will find the staff at the clinic are all very understanding and reassuring.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

You are right when you say about getting ahead of ourselves. I think I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. I hope that even if it is cancer as I've no symptoms it's been found early.
I did have a breast lump about 20 years ago and was referred urgently for investigations. At the time my children were very young and that's what concerned me at the time. In the event I was given the all clear. Now they're adults I still worry about them but not to the same extent although any cancer diagnosis will obviously impact them too.

I've also learned that my Mum needs a colonoscopy having been recalled from her bowel screening. She doesn't want my children to know about this yet unless there's anything to tell them.

It's going to be a long few weeks so just hoping I can get done sleep one night.

    xx

    Hi Debjay,

Not long to wait now and, I'm sure that you're glad.

Did they carry out any tests when you were referred last year? Here's hoping that, even if it is cancer, it has't progressed all that much in that time.

Here's hoping that all goes well for both yourself and your Mum.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

It was 20 years or so ago that I was referred for a lump and I can't really remember what happened but got the all clear. My GP referred me in December as I had painful breasts but nobody could feel any lumps so was put down to being musculoskeletal at that time.

You're right though not long to go. Just praying for positive news for me and my Mum now

  • Hi Debjay,

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow and hoping for good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
