Sore throat, one tonsil swollen

Hi hoping to get other people's views and stories on what I've been going through.

for past 3 months I've had a sore throat on and off and white coating on tongue. When I called my dr they couldn't see me due to Covid but provided me with a swab to do myself. The results came back and I had thrush, the dr thought the sore throat was acid reflux!
I was prescribed medication and sent on my way and unfortunately nothing got better.

The past week my throat pain has become more persistent. When checking my throat I noticed that my right tonsil was enlarged (no idea how long it has been like this) I immediately done the wrong thing and consulted dr google to say I am worried is an understatement. Of course I'm thinking tonsil cancer.

I called my doctor today and when speaking to her she has now referred me to an ENT specialist and prescribe me with more medication as she suspects thrush again.

I am so worried I actually feel physically sick.

  • Hello Iona-123

I'm sorry to hear about the current health concerns that you're dealing with. As you've already discovered, searching Google for information very often leaves people feeling more anxious and with no firm answers.

  • Hi couldn’t I please get an update about how things went for you? Currently going through the same and super anxious

  • Hi minix! My sore throat left and if I'm honest I really do think it was a lot to with my anixety.
I seen a ENT and he assured me everything was fine and my enlarged tonsil was nothing to worry about but if it changes in size to obviously get it checked.

I was also seen by an oral surgeon who agreed my mouth looked healthy and done some blood tests for some immunity diseases as my mouth is always so dry which also may have been causing the pain to throat.

I hope this helps but I would always see a dr and if you aren't happy demand to be referred.
