HPV Positive and Borderline changes

Hi All

I received my letter yesterday with my smear results and I'm HPV Positive and have borderline cell changes.

I am waiting for an appointment for a colposcopy.

I'm as scared as hell!!

I noticed the posts on the forum are from young people. I am 58 and haven't had a partner for 9 years. Does anyone know if age makes a difference?

I've tried googling and it's just worried me even more.

Thanks

  • Hi this is the exactly what has happened to me am I 36 and was referred, then I had a letter saying because of COVID the unit was closed so I would have to wait , I found this very distressing so my dr refered me to another hospital I got the letter on 24th jan and I'm not being seen until 4th March . I am petrified to the point of panic attack and uncontrollably crying. It's the unknown and I really don't want anything to happen to me and I'm scared of what they will do. I hope your appointment is sooner

  • Hi dw888rde

I have been reading some other posts regarding this. They said if it's considered urgent you get a phone call straight away and you are seen within 2 weeks. It's very worrying isn't it!!

They also said it's not as bad as you think it's going to be but it's what they might find that worries me.

I keep trying not to think about but it's always there. I will let you know when I get my appointment

  • Yes please do ! I agree it's what they will find if anything!- and also the uncertainty and the worry of going on your own

    good luck

  • had smear back today.

    borderline changes and hpv.

    I'm terrified

  • So I had my colposcopy last week.

All's well. I was only in there 15 mins and the actual examination didn't take long at all.

I was told that I must have another smear test next year.

    I am so relieved!!

  • So I had smear 11th March, had to chase results, got told normal on 23rd April over the phone by my drs, but then got a letter the next day (dated 23rd April) telling me hpv positive borderline changes and colposcopy would be required.

I have been here before, I had hpv/borderline changes on my last smear 3 years ago. Had a colposcopy then too and walked away been told all was fine see you in three years. I have since been told by the nurse who did my smear I should have gone back after 12 months. So now I'm worried that my cervix has had three years to develop whatever and no one has kept an eye on it.

I have however received a letter today, again dated 23rd April and it's for my colposcopy on 1st May, so it's only taken them 8 days from results to get me seen which I'm extremely grateful for. I keep telling myself not to worry, I know it'll all be fine, but as we all know... it's just not that easy.

I'll update you when I've had my colposcopy!

  • This has so reassured me. I've had the same letter through (HPV and borderline changes) and waiting for my colposcopy. I am so scared of what this means I've not been able to sleep - I wondered if I'd done anything wrong (which I know is unreasonable). I spoke to my GP and he seemed very relaxed by the whole thing. I'm so glad I read this. Thank you.
