Hi everyone,
I am 25 so I know I am young to be worrying about the worst, I have managed to talk myself down but would like some details from individuals that have had similar experiences.
I have had swollen tonsils for 4+ weeks now, one is significantly larger than the other. I first noticed this when I have what I believe to be a tooth infection or abcess, due to Covid I was never seen by a dentist but recieved antibiotics. The tooth issue went away in 5 days but the enlarged tonsils remained. At this point I had no other symptoms. I then went to my GP and saw a nurse, she couldn't see any sign of infection in my tonsils, she noted one was bigger than the other and said I had oral thrush. I was given some medicine to rinse my mouth with and swallow. After a week she rang me to ask how I was, at this time my tonsils were still enlarged and I had started with a sore throat. She asked to see me the next day which I thought was quick and didn't expect due to covid. She told me the oral thrush was gone but my tonsils remain large, with one much larger than the other. She then told me she was referring me to an urgent ENT appointment. I was warned that the letter will say URGENT and cancer research. Obviously I worried. She said the appointment would be within 2 weeks. That she is unsure what it could be but we need to rule the bad things out.
Since then my throat has become painful and times and very uncomfortable, I sometimes struggle to drink and eating ia also difficult. My throat overall is sore, inside and out. I thought I felt a very small lump on my neck but I thibk I'm just searching things now. I'm so tired all the time recently and my appetite isn't as it was. I have noticed white areas and some spots on my tonsil (the larger one). I have convinced myself it is hidden tonsil stones, I can't actually see any. But I think thinking of a less serious condition has helped.
The letter came 2 days later, and my appointment is this Wednesday coming (a week after my appointment). I'm thankful it is being sorted quickly but that also worries me as I didn't expect a quick turn around with the pandemic and lockdown.
My question is, what should I expect from the appointment. How long may it take? I work in a school and need to book part of the day off and not sure how long I should book.
Also have you experienced anything similar?
Thank you all in advance!
