Tonsil Cancer

For the past 3 weeks I have had a swollen tonsil just on the right hand side and cobblestoning at the back of my throat. I initially had ear pain and headache but that has gone and have also been on a 10 day course of antibiotics with no change. Really worried about tonsil cancer even though I know it is unlikely. I'm 19, female and have been a social smoker since I was about 16 but quit a couple of months ago. I used to get an itchy throat sometimes from smoking and a sore on the roof of my mouth from scratching which would heal in a week but come back sometimes if I smoked again. Could this have been a sign of oral cancer that I ignored? Can't stop thinking about it

  • Hiya,

Glad all came back clear, I hope you're not in too much pain as well, I know how frustrating it is when nothing helps. Hopefully the next few weeks will go by fast for your next appointment!

Things seem to be moving quite slow (I'm in Scotland so don't know if that's part of it) but I have an appointment to see ENT on 12th April which seems ages away :( Not feeling as worried but the pain in my throat is quite bad, thankfully the ear pain has reduced a lot though so there's always a silver lining!

Fingers crossed for good news! Take care,

    Lucy

  • Hi Lucy,

Sorry to hear your process is going so slowly, that would drive me insane. My tonsillectomy has been brought up, I am having it Wednesday (just two weeks after my last appointment).

I feel like mine got better but is now worse again, I do get earache occasionally, more when I eat. But the throat pain is what I can't stand currently. I can't wait to have them out but really nervous as well.

I hope your appointment goes well and keep busy in the meantime, I am sure it will go quickly.
