Fast Track referral put back.

Hi all

Just wondering if any of you could recommend some coping strategies.  I went to GP beginning of last month with a sore nipple pains in my breast and on examination she found what she described as a hard patch just below the nipple. She sent off a fast track referral saying I should be seen within two weeks. My appointment came through not within the two week but a month later. Iv just received a new appointment for 22nd of February due to unforeseen circumstances. I'm guessing Covid comes into play here.  I'm at my witts end and sick with worry. Both my husband and I have been so careful although we both still have to work to not have to isolate in order for me to make the appointment which we will obviously continue to do but I'm going out of my mind here. Any help or wise words of advice would be appreciated. I can't seem to concentrate and I keep bursting into tears.

Thank you in anticipation.

  • Hi Kelsi

I think the main thing to focus on is its a means to an end. Its got to be done so you can move on. Once its over you'll be free of feeling like you do now. It won't be pleasant no procedure is even if its just taking bloods but when the time comes and hopefully thats soon you will the strength. Im sure if you explained all this to your GP they would help and maybe tell you what to expect from the procedure.  Thoughts seem to run riot and overtake our daily lives. I guess its a matter of just thinking like Captain  Tom - his mantra Tomorrow will be a good day, when things look bleak let's cling to that.

I'm off to bake a cake to occupy me this morning hopefully you can find something nice to do today and it will give our nervous system a break from running overtime.

    Xx

  • Hi thought I would give you an update

Still not had a letter about my breast excision so I called the clinic this morning, they said it will be done at the xray department. So I called there to ask about waiting times she said there is no record of me to go there?!!!

Eventually spoke to a breast consultant who informed me that the woman who called with my biopsy results 11 days ago, hasn't put the referral through to get this done.

So I have been sitting worried out my mind for almost 2 weeks and all that time there has been no referral put through to get the procedure done. She said it will be put through today, what a waste of almost 2 weeks sitting waiting for nothing!

  • Oh Kelsi I am sorry to hear that! Good job you started chasing it up otherwise goodness knows what would have happened.  Heavens let's hope they make a point of now putting you to top of queue in fact I think would would be tempted to phone xray department in a couple of days and check they've received it and explain whats happened and how you've had all this worry etc and see if they can get you a date. No harm in trying. Two weeks of all that stress and waiting for nothing.  Let's hope they get you sorted now.   Keep me posted.

  • I was told it would be done with ultrasound and vacuum to remove it, do you have any idea why I will be getting sent to xray for this?

  • I'm no expert but I think ultra sound and xray are probably in same department so maybe thats why. They will want to locate where it is in order to perform the removal I suppose. They need to make sure they are getting it all. Thats all I can think.

  • Hi just a wee update, hospital called today and explained the whole procedure, I'm booked in for March 2nd. Just glad to finally have a date x

  • Sorry sent that before I'd finished. Wanted to say I hope they explained the procedure and managed to put your mind at ease.

    Take care keep in touch.

    Hi Kelsi,

I am so sorry to hear about this oversight. It is worth learning through this experience. If ever an appointment appears to be long overdue, always follow it up with enquiries, just in case you've been forgotten about.

I hope that you get your appointment through soon. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

I finally got my appointment for March 2nd. I know it's not far away but I have a fear of hospitals and I havent been sleeping properly, I'm worried about the procedure and the pain after, but I know it needs done. Thank you so much for your message, and to the other brave women I have spoke to on here, it really does help a lot xx

  • HI Kelsi,

I am delighted to hear that you now have a date for your appointment. Do you now fully understand what they are doing and why they are doing it? It sounds as if yours will be a fairly basic procedure doone under ultrasound. I had a lumpectomy 11 years ago and a double mastectomy the following year. They were both much simpler and easier than I expected them to be. If I managed to get through that, you will get through this.

Try to keep busy to help pass the time until your date - Fortunately, it's not that long to wait, although I'm sure that it feels like forever.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
