Multiple fibroadenomas

Hi everyone hope your all ok,

Just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about multiple fibroadenomas? What causes them? I'm 30 years old with no children yet, I had my first lump biopsied feb 2019 in RB, had my 2nd one in June 20 LB, then found my 3rd in RB two days after getting my results for the 2nd one.

I now feel like I could possibly have a couple more new lumps in my LB, so I need to make an appointment, I'm just so scared. My anxiety is bad right now.

The breast clinic nurses say my breasts are dense and in my results aswell as having fibroadenomas they said I have bilateral benign breast changes, does this mean fibrocystic breasts? My breasts are very hormonal and get so so sore each month and swell up sometimes lasting as long as 3 weeks. Could this be causing the fibroadenomas?

thanks so much in advance

  • Hello Ks3

A fibroadenoma is a very common benign breast condition found mostly in young women. It’s not known what causes a fibroadenoma. It’s thought that it probably occurs because of increased sensitivity to the hormone oestrogen.

It's understandable you may feel concerned about these lumps and I'd suggest having a look at this really helpful information on the Breast Cancer Now website which explains things in much more detail.

As you've noticed some changes in your breast do get in touch with your GP to get these checked. Hopefully they will be able to give you some reassurance.
