Irregular Periods and weight loss

Around a year ago I started to have irregular periods and my cycle has been anything from 14-49 days ranging from very light to more recently a bit heavier with a few tiny clots. They usually last around 5 days but I have noticed them lasting 6 or 7. I have also lost 3 stone in weight over the last 12 months. I have stomach pain, I have had constipation on and off since 2019 which is getting worse and also had a 4 month period of loose bm, I have ulcerative colitis but it dosent feel like my UC as I have no bleeding or mucus. I am in my early forties so thought maybe an eary menopause so just ignored it in the hope it would get better itself. But after family saying they are worried about me I decided to contact my GP for advice she said I would need tests mainly bloods, ultrasound and a smear which I have never been brave enough to have. She told me one of the blood tests was a tumor marker test which scared me a bit. Anyway I went for a smear a couple of weeks ago but the nurse couldnt do it as my cervix wasnt visible and so got the gp to come in and do internal to locate it them this was unsuccessful the doctor told me my womb was facing backwards and was worried about how much I was bleeding from the nurse trying to do the smear and would refer me for colscopy so they can do it at the hospital I go in 2 weeks for this. My doctor rang me a day ago and told that my local hospital has refused the ultrasound as my c125 blood test has come back normal, I didnt know they could do this and I feel really stressed at the moment, I know I shouldnt be worried if my bloods are normal but I am. If anyone had similar experience please get in touch.

  • Hello Westcoast20

I'm sorry to hear about all the health issues that you've been dealing with. It sounds as if you've had a lot to handle and I can understand why you're feeling anxious about what may be causing these problems.

It's frustrating that your referral for an ultrasound was declined however it's good to hear that you do have an appointment with colposcopy in the pipeline.

Hopefully, your GP will be able to arrange an appropriate referral to see a specialist following the colposcopy appointment and things will start to improve for you soon.

    Best wishes,
