High calcoprotectin levels, waiting for 4th colonoscopy

Hi all, I'm Alison. Had what was thought to be IBS for 20 years. Also, diabetic T2, with arthritis and neuropathy. Had a marker on a recent blood test that hospital will investigate for Crohns or other IBD, possibly Colitis.

No news yet on colonoscopy/biopsy date.

Regular bouts of faecal incontinence if try to walk too far... it's a worry. I'm anxious.

Experienced inflammation of skin and tenderness in sciatic nerve area several times recently, with pink flat rash.

Seems like I have to just be patient and wait for the biopsies to be taken and processed. I have spoken to GP, but many things held up by C19 at the moment.

Thanks for the info on here, especially Simon, because it gives one hope that the outcome could be better than anxiety I have makes me feel it could be! X A

  • Just wanted to say hello Alibee77 and I'm glad to hear that the forum has been useful. As you know, health services are in high demand due to the pandemic, but I hope you get a date for your tests soon. If you need any tips, there are some here, which are good for when you are waiting for an appointment or for results.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Alison,

Really sorry to hear of your struggles and anxiety. I find myself in a similar situation unfortunately. I've suffered bowel issues for around 4 years, daily pain especially early in the morning and mostly loose stools every day. I have had a sigmoidoscopy and ct colonoscopy in that time period with nothing shown plus a 'within range' calprotectin test. Both my gp and consultant both put it down to IBS which I have always been sceptical. Anyway literally a couple of weeks ago I suffered abnormally watery diarrhea for days that wasn't helped even with the highest doses of loperamide. A Calprotectin test showed very high levels. I find myself panicking now as I have had an urgent referral to a private hospital this weekend which I fear seems very fast in times of covid. Anyway I'm a complete wreck at the thought of being given devastating news in a few days time. I have suffered health anxiety through the loss of my mum and dad through cancer so that obviously is fresh in my mind.

I'd hope the fact that you have had symptoms for such a long period would suggest maybe some kind of ibd but I'm no expert. I hope you can get some answers to your questions as I believe the anxiety is the worst part of it all.

    Very Best Wishes
