Hard lump in armpit

Good evening all,

I really hope you don't mind me posting so for the last few weeks I've felt a very heavy sensation behind my right breast I'm 42 & put it down to changes etc however my shoulder has been so painful & on examination in the shower felt a slight lump in my armpit, I seem my GP who confirmed a lump she didn't give to much away & sent a referral to a breast clinic I have the letter which states suspected cancer, which has made me feel nervous as in the past I have been referred & never seen that title on examination today my lump is very hard just over the size of a pea feels almost like a sharp edge & stuck into the armpit area, could anyone offer any advise? I do apologies if this seems insensitive to you anyone & I wish you all so much love & strength to your own stories... also just to add my blood count white cells have come back low twice xx

  • Hello Skelly1,

I can understand why seeing these words on the letter made you panic a little but try not to focus on this right now as you haven't had any tests done yet that would definitely determine what your diagnosis is. I hope you won't have to wait too long to be seen at the breast clinic. I can imagine it must be a very stressful time for you while waiting to find out more.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Good morning,

I have similar symptoms to you. I have a heavy dragging feeling in my left breast accompanied by shoulder pain and sometimes shooting pains in my breast.

I saw my GP last Wednesday who said both breasts felt the same but that she would refer me to the breast clinic to be on the safe side. She also wrote suspected breast cancer on the referral which I now wish I had questioned. Anyway I'm still waiting to hear from the breast clinic although I think it's a 2WW (I'm in Hertfordshire)

I like you think it's hormonal possibly perimenopause (I'm 44) but the wording on the referral has frightened me.

Let me know how you get on

Take care and try not to go down Dr Google's rabbit hole
